One special little guy
A special guy who is going to be spending some time with us in the near future is going to be baptized this weekend. I was fortunate enough to be able to make him a cake. This is a white cake with a thick layer of butter cream between the two layers of cake. I then did the basket weave around the cake and rose bud accents.

It's a surprise...
I took 4 boxes to be mailed out on Monday, of course I was late enough getting around that they didn't make it out until yesterday, but with it being Presidents day on Monday I wasn't too worried about it. My 4 boxes were all gifts, and 5 individuals will be receiving cookies. Only one person knows they are on their way, but they aren't for her they are for her daughter.
My dear friend Dana's daughter is turning 3 so I sent her come cat cookies and other "birthday" ones.
Our twin nieces are turning 9 so they each will be receiving a set of cookies shaped like cakes, cupcakes in each of their favorite colors.
Our neighbors daughter had a boy so I made some ducks and onesies cookies that they will hopefully enjoy.
I also know someone who is going for Ms. Shamrock 2011 so of course she will be receiving some cookies.

Baseballs and Cardinals and Roses...OH MY!
I've been very busy in the last 24 hours, here is a glimpse of what I've been up to.
We'll start with Baseballs...I made Baseball cupcakes. Cupcakes are white cake with white butter cream frosting and red "threads". Intended to look like...well...Baseballs.
First Attempt |
Second Attempt |
I also made a Cardinal's cake. This is my second one. I successfully completed my first one last night only to sneak a peak at it this morning to be mortified. I attempted to smooth out the bubbles and what not, but I knew that I could not show this cake. I thought about taking the fondant off and attempting to "rebuild" the cake, but in the end I set to baking and started from the beginning. The end result is slightly different, I used royal icing for the lettering on the second cake verses the fondant on the first. I'm very pleased with my second end result.
I tried to make Roses after I saw Amanda on Iambaker do a rose tutorial. I had extra cake batter from the cupcakes so I made a 8 inch round cake. I then covered the cake with butter cream and used a 1 M tip and made roses. I'm taking the Rose cake to book club tonight.

Amor
I had the joy of making cupcakes for a Valentine/Birthday treat for one of the sweetest girls I have ever met. It was decided that I would put hearts on the cupcakes and then write the names of her classmates and teacher on the hearts. She was most excited to sneak a peak at them, I hope her classmates enjoyed them as well.
I also was able to make and deliver some Valentine's Cookies for some friends. Here they are.

Valentine's Cookies
Before I set to baking the Valentine's for my son's class, I wasn't sure what cookie cutter he would choose so I made a "regular" recipe. Needless to say, I ended up with way more cookies than what he needed as Valentines. I enjoyed decorating the other heart cookies the way I felt like decorating them, and then today I had fun delivering a set to our Vet's office and to a friend who just had a baby on Monday. Usually I try to do "custom" baby cookies, but they got heart cookies instead. I really love decorating cookies...

Sweet Valentine
Well tomorrow is the big Valentine's Day party at my son's school. He only goes to school Tuesday-Friday so he won't have school on the actual "Valentine's Day". I decided I would make and decorate heart cookies for his classmates. The cookies will be bagged up and handed out like the paper Valentine's he took the time to write his name and his classmates names on. I let him have a little input on the cookies and he declared that the girls would receive pink, and the boys would get red. I let him choose the cookie cutter, he originally wanted to do one for the boys and one for the girls, but I nixed that idea and declared just one cookie cutter. I then wrote the To: Name- From : Name on all of the cookies. Off to decorate some more.

Packer Love
In celebration of the Packer's winning Superbowl 45, I made some Packer cookies. The cookies were circle cookies with G's, Helmets, Jerseys and Footballs.
I also made some heart cookies to gear up for Valentine's Day, I had to take my youngest to the doctor for a well child check up, and I shared with the nurses and doctors the heart cookies.

Baby and Packers
It was a busy week here. Some dear friends of ours just had a new baby. I love showering families with cookies when their new bundle is born. I especially like to make the older siblings feel important as most of the focus is on the new little person. I delivered these to the family yesterday.
I also made another Packer cake, very fitting as the big Super Bowl 45 is tomorrow. It was my second time making this chocolate cake with butter cream frosting in-between the two layers which is then covered with marshmallow fondant. The entire process of this cake was smooth from start to finish which was very welcome after the headache the last one gave me.
