Surprise!

Just over a week ago, I received a phone call asking if I could help to surprise someone for their sister's 50th Birthday.  I personally don't like surprises (unless it's a baby), I'm a planner, but it was fun to take part in this surprise.  This is a yellow cake with a generous layer of strawberry in-between.  The entire cake is then coated in butter cream.   The top of the cake represents the birthday girl and her love for animals.  Happy Birthday Lois!

About 5 days before the party I received another phone call, a decent number of people would be attending the party so a second "back up" cake was requested.

Cookies were also requested to complete the surprise, I did not take pictures of the individual cookies as I often do, but there were rectangles, circles, cupcakes and cake shapes.  Many stated the number 50, others had 1961.  I also made one special cookie for the birthday girl.

Spring Butterflies

I love when I am able to take an idea and expand on it.  That was the case with this chocolate/vanilla marble Butterfly Cake.  I was able to decorate as I wished, something girly, maybe some pinks, purples, greens, but whatever I wanted.  This is what I came up with, seems to work.  I then tried to coordinate another cake with the Butterfly Cake, using my Butterfly Cookie cutter I made an outline for the two butterflies and then added color.

With the weather like it is today I think it actually feels like spring.  Happy Weekend Everyone!

Ballet Slipper Princess

Being as I am a "Boy Mom", and not a very "girly" one at that, I have never had the chance to experience a lot of pink.
I made several dozen ballet slippers and a few crowns all done up in pink.

I have tried hard to remind my boys that every girl is a princess.

Even their Mom!

I also experimented with cookies on sticks.

Easter Treats and More

Easter will be here tomorrow and I finished out my week with a few more Easter egg cookies.

This is a yellow cake with pink and yellow rosettes covering it.

I made another "Rob" for those of you who don't know about the "Rob" its 2-8 inch chocolate cakes that have a thick layer of chocolate butter cream frosting in-between.  Then it is covered in chocolate butter cream and then topped with chocolate shavings. Only for the serious Chocolate Lover.

I also made this cake; it is 2-8 inch white cakes with a layer of lemon between them.  The sides are made out of butter cream, and then it is topped with another layer of lemon.  This cake screams spring to me.

My last cake is one that we enjoyed tonight.  It is a double layer yellow cake with lemon filling, and then it is drizzled with a light glaze.

Eggs-a-plenty

Easter is right around the corner and I set to decorating some egg shaped cookies. After all who wouldn't want to use their new cookie cutter?

I had fun with all the different eggs and then had to give them out, so I made up this tray and I delivered them to my dentist. Yes, I said dentist, the same one who was going to be filling my cavity at that visit.

My husband thinks I'm silly for taking a rather large plate of cookies to my dentist, but they were a hit with the staff.

Spring Surprises

My goal in these cookies was to think spring and to test out my "spring" cookie cutters.
These cookies had many destinations, the first was the pharmacy, and I actually had a "planned" visit to pick up a prescription rather than just stopping by after visiting the doctor so I packed a plate and surprised all of the wonderful people that work so hard at the pharmacy.

The next 3 sets were wrapped up and put in a box and shipped to 3 unsuspecting people. One is my grandmother who just had eye surgery on Thursday, I'm hoping these help brighten her mood, and make her Easter enjoyable. The other two boxes are total surprises for some dear friends.
Enjoy!

80/12 Birthday

Platter of Cookies

Today something wonderful is being celebrated.
The 80th Birthday of Bob and Florence (twins).
I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to join in on the action.
I made a platter of cookies and cake for the occasion.  The cookies are a variety of shapes, circles, cupcakes, squares and even a few rectangles.
The cake is a yellow cake with a delicious layer of strawberries that is then covered with a thick butter cream frosting.  Rosettes line the cake.

80th Birthday Cake

Another birthday is also being celebrated this weekend.  Caleb is turning 12.
Caleb's cake is a yellow and chocolate marble cake with butter cream frosting.  I enjoyed making Caleb's cake special for him; he  plays both football and basketball so I tried to capture both sports and bring them together into one cake.  The basketball and football are shaped cupcakes which help give the cake a 3-D look.

Elmo Cake

Our church had a Time and Talent Auction last November.  I donated two dozen decorated sugar cookies and a cake.  The cookies were delivered before Christmas, and the cake is for this weekend.  A special 1 year old boy will be enjoying this marble Elmo cake today at his first birthday party.  Happy Birthday Alex!

Spaghetti Cupcakes...

Using leftover batter from a marble cake I made today, I made up some Jumbo Cupcakes, and well given that it is in fact April 1st, I made some spaghetti cupcakes.  Using my butter cream frosting and a # 5 tip, I made my spaghetti.  My spaghetti sauce is homemade strawberry jam on top.  My boys enjoyed delivering the cupcakes to neighbors.
